Bombay Beach
Location
Salton Sea, California
Bombay Beach used to be a popular beach getaway, mainly in the 50s. But in the 1980s, the lake's ecosystem was experiencing rising salinity levels causing the place to go out of business and homeowners moving out of the area. However, it became popular in a new way for artists who transformed the town into a giant art museum with art pieces made out of junk. Bombay Beach is now known to be a post-apocalyptic area.
I'm a big fan of post apocalyptic movies such as Mad Max and The Bad Batch and I think what helps makes them popular is how artsy shelters and vehicles look by being a mixture of different objects. Bombay Beach was an exciting place for me to visit because of all the interesting works of art I saw there, and how it made me feel I was in a post apocalyptic world.
I saw a lot there while I was visiting, including an outdoor theater. They should show one of the Mad Max movies there LOL. Several of the vehicles I saw there had really been torn apart and busted up. They were complete destroyed but interesting to look at.
Bombay Beach had been abandoned, and half of the houses I saw in that town were a wreck, but there were also houses that looked neat and people were living in them. I think the people who live in those houses are artists, and Bombay Beach has been a great location for them to bring their art to life. I mean some of them really went all out on their front yards.
I had such a good time at Bombay Beach that I didn't want to leave. It's known to be an art exhibit, and photographers like me find it inspirational to capture.
